I still don’t understand the unlock and lock levers for the soft top. Like I get that they should be in lock position when the top is down, but what about when the top is up? What about when you are putting the top down and up? When are you supposed to have it unlocked?

My soft top seems to go down and up whatever position it’s in, so not sure if my levers are broken, but that’s an entirely different question. I guess for this thread let’s just assume it’s working as it should - what is the correct procedure?

Unlocked unless the top is down. And never try to open/close the top with them in the locked position.

It'll depend on if we're talking OE or aftermarket top... But I leave mine locked unless I'm closing it. When you go to open - or lower - your top and the latches are set to lock, you'll hear two satisfying CLICKS indicating that the top is locked and has little play along the track. Without the latches locked, it can move freely - gravity will help you out of course, but not something I want to rely on at highway speed. Then when you want to raise the top again, simply move the latches to unlock position, raise it, and then put the latches back into lock mode so the next time you lower it, it'll be all set for you.

Unfortunately this is why I’m so confused. I feel like these two responses are totally conflicting. So keep it locked and only unlock when putting it back up? Or only have it locked when down, otherwise always unlocked?

It’s the manufacturer top, btw

Locked or Unlocked while the top is up does not matter and serves no purpose either way. It won't hurt anything to lock it, but if you forget to unlock it before you put it down, you'll bend something. So easier to just keep it unlocked unless you are locking it down in place.

makes sense, tho the guy above you said to lower it while locked. I’ve heard both, and heard about that “click” thing so it’s just odd to me

Make sure it’s unlocked.
Lower top.
Flip switches to locked position.
Press down on top to click it into the locked position.

To put it back up, all you have to do is unlock and lift. Then leave it in unlocked position and you’re ready to go the next time you want to lower it.

I've never had an issue with the latches in lock position while folding it down over two years. You won't break anything by setting the latches to lock before lowering it.

I can't seem to get mine to "click" no matter how much I push down on it. Anything I could be missing?

No. Mine has clicked a couple times but for the most part it doesn't. If it's in locked down position and you cant lift it, there is no requirement to hear a "click".
Ahh, I tried it again and see what you mean. Also, I was expecting it to "lock" flatter than it does. Mines is working, I just wasn't lifting it far enough when I tested it. Thank you!!
