smittybilt control box mounting question

I have mounted mine to the side on a temporary bracket until I make a better one... I'm using the new Rusty's winch plate which has a forward angle to it. I chose this plate specifically because it also allowed my to mount a Draw-Tite front hitch receiver below the bumper, but the X2O power cables get pinched against the front grille.

My bumper came with winch mount/plate.

Does the Maximus 3 plate "relocate" the winch? The built in mount is not moveable. its all one big welded piece with the bumper

I believe the winch plate mounts the winch lower and maybe a little forward in the factory bumper which may explain why my wiring is just below the grill and I dont have rubbing issues with the control box because it sits a little more forward in the opening.

I can compare once my wife gets her one piece bumper (hopefully today or tomorrow) and I mount the same winch to see if I have the same problem with hers as you and others are as well.

Not sure why people mount them on the winch anyway...that's the beauty of the non-integrated solenoid. Mine's mounted under the hood next to the brake booster.

Looking at this winch. Two questions:
- Which mounting plate does everyone think is best?
- Has anyone moved the control box up into the engine bay? what all is involved?
