That's what I did, but it wasn't the only place I tapped for power.Ideally you'd tap into the mirror writing.
Those mirror wires, as I suspect that you are aware, don't remain energized--at least from my testing--much time beyond parking the vehicle. So if your dash camera's purpose is to only record while driving then they're a perfect place to tap for power.
But I also record when the vehicle's parked. So I additionally went to the accessory plug in the cargo area, running wire under the floor mots, as that's a power source that by default is always energized
Of course this approach is best limited to dash cameras with parking modes, and voltage cutoffs, which know that they're in parking mode when only the cargo power plug is energized.
If I were to do it all over again I'd probably tap the ODB 2 port rather than the cargo area plug, whose pin 16 is also always energized.
