How much steering slack (looseness) is acceptable in a nearly new JL?

Are you telling me they all have slack? If so, how much is normal?
I've owned 4 in this platform. All 4 had different amounts. You can dial it out with better components but with your other thread about steering stuff I'm going to suggest you're expecting too much from a Jeep.

Maybe I don't know what to expect. What is a typical amount of slack, please? By the way, the problem in the previous thread was caused by an incompetent mechanic. I had it aligned a third time somewhere else and it's OK now.

Define slack. The dead spot in the center where caster should pull you forward but it doesn't?

Or the amount of steering input needed to make a steering change?

Slack is how loose the steering wheel is when the engine is off. It's the amount the wheel may be turned with minimal force.

A lot of guys say that's how jeeps drive. I don't think that is true. Jeeps are twitchy and they follow imperfections and crowns in the road. That is true, but if your jeep has two inches of slop in the wheel you don't have to live with it.

If yours is like mine, with a dead spot in the steering when the steering wheel is centered. What I call slop or play.. Follow this below video and your problems will be solved.

Its tedious take your time and don't wallow the allen head bolt out. Use wd and a little heat if your doesn't immediately break loose, but this simple step cured my jeep. I only tightened mine a 16th of an inch.

I didn't make the video and just found it last week. Also mine is a 21 with the steel box. Same procedure. People say don't do it and I am not telling you to, but I did and no more jeep steering.

I guess there is nothing wrong with my steering slop because it looks like the "after" in the video. However, some say I look like the "before" in makeover videos.

The JL uses an electric pump to pressurize the steering system. It bleeds off pressure when not running. So it can seem excessive.

Yeah, I noticed when the engine is stopped by eTorque at a traffic light the steering feels completely different than when it is turned off.
