Hi All, 2020 JLUR with SOT with 36K miles. Many of those miles spent off road. Lots of climbing and torquing. My SOT is stuck in the wide open position. It will move to close about 1”, and then stop and return open. On the 4th auto try when I have to manually close it, it still stops at the same point. It clicks a single click (from the driver’s side, I think) when it halts.

Logic says there’s a twig or something in the track. However, I can’t get it cleared. Things I’ve tried: 1. Air gun blown into the tracks from inside and outside, forward and backwards. 2. Vacuumed in the same manner I blew the air. 3. I removed the two fuses for the top, checked them (good) and replaced the fuses.

I can’t see everything because of the folds, but simply can’t find what would be stopping the forward movement. A search of this forum did not produce any related threads.

Anyone have ideas or suggestions?

Have you tried greasing the tracks? I wipe mine out and apply white lithium grease down the tracks once a year.

Permatex 80345 White Lithium Grease, 1.5 oz. https://a.co/d/eJU5wxh

There was a guy on here a few years ago who had gravel lining the tracks which caused similar problems to what you are experiencing. He cleaned the tracks and used the grease and it fixed his issues.

Other issues could be that one of the tracks is kinked somewhere due to the flex in the body when you’re off-roading or the motor might have burnt out.

If the grease trick doesn’t fix it, I hate to say it, but might be worth having the dealer take a look.

I will get some grease and try it this weekend. Hoping for cooler (than 117°) and no monsoon action before then!!! Thanks for the reply!

Thank you. I did find the recalibrate info. But you have to start the process from a closed position - which I can’t get to right now. But once I get it closed I will certainly do this process. No reason not to!

White lithium grease might be part of the reason why you have to grease it up each year.

White lithium Greece is great initially, but when it does eventually dry out, and it will eventually dry out, it becomes a friction enhancer. I wiped out a window channel a good number of years ago on my wife's Honda Accord hybrid at the time. Everyone on the internet recommended white lithium grease in the window channel, bad idea!

It's better to use something like silicone paste. It'll last 10 times as long, you can use it on pretty much everything from door hinges around the house, to spark plugs. Best part is, if it does wear down, it will never act as a friction enhancer like white lithium grease.

This guy right here is the cure-all! I have one 16 oz jar, exact same as one picture above. It's lasted me about 3 years now, and I use it all the time. I wouldn't recommend anything but!

Thanks so much for posting this product. I learned this lesson while lubricating my garage door -- no lithium!

Thanks, I’ll check this out. I only went with the lithium grease because that’s what it looked like was in there originally. But if this is a better option it would make things a lot easier.
