I had assumed that the satellite antenna was located on the roll bar above the right side of the passenger seat.
Not there on my JL. I don't want to lift my freedom top just to locate the antenna. Is there a standard location or
is it different depending on the model?

@TIDALWAVE

You assumed right. That is where it is. It's on the top side. Was on the JK and same with the JL. Find a topless pic here on the forum and you will see it residing there.

The antenna is accessible without removing the top - but I did have to remove the soundbar to get at it to install my rooftop rack. Maximus-3 has instructions, and a relocation bracket that move it next to the driver's visor. Pretty simple, but again had to take a lot of the soundbar down to get at it.

Hope this helps :)

Your input is appreciated. Any chance you could post a link to these "Maximus-3 has instructions" .... or possibly pdf them yourself and post here. Would be helpful to many. Thanks in advance for doing this!

By the way, did XM reception improve once you relocated the satellite receiver?

The XM (yes, after arguing with SiriusXM about this, the Jeep is XM-based) antenna is above the sound bar. The smaller one on the right in this photo (sorry, don't know the original poster). There is a thread on here somewhere of someone who relocated it to the hood.

Yup, your pic clearly shows the satellite receiver on the right. Thanks for the pic.

JK is similar.

Well, I can't find anything in this forum about it, but here is someone who moved it on their JK...
http://dirtroadtrip.com/blog/trucks/2014-jk-satellite-radio-antenna-relocation/

I'm considering the same thing, since I regularly have a Thule on top. The 3G/4G antenna is less obstructed, since the signals are mostly horizontal and not from satellites.
There is a wealth of info on the internet in regard to doing the dead with a JK. Haven't seen anything for the JL though. Also, aftermarket bracket would have to be JL & XM shape friendly.

Prior to relocating the antenna, I had a LOT or dropouts and signal loss... since relocating, considerably fewer… Id say a marked improvement!

When you relocated the XM antenna did you have to install a longer antenna wire extension? If so, how long, where did you buy it, did you have to use an adapter?

I don't really understand how this would improve reception. Both spots are blocked by the hardtop. Is the antenna somehow getting interference from other stuff on the soundbar?

I assume that the larger antenna (labeled 'Jeep') is the GPS antenna. A roof top platform that blocks the SirusXM antenna would be expected to also block the GPS antenna. Has any relocated both antennas? If so, how difficult was it to move the GPS? Where did you acquire the relocation brackets?

Not sure where the Compass and GPS units are located on a JL.

I know on the 2007-____ JK, the Compass and GPS, reside above the glove box.
