I thought so. I know there are many aftermarket options but I like the look of the steel OEMs, especially if you add the optional winch guard bar. If AEV had finished their bumpers I may have held off but judging from that thread it may be a while. I especially like the look and fit of the rear bumper, although there are many here that have noted it is prone to creasing the body and bending if you have a hard hit rock crawling.

since I don’t plan to do anything super serious until I get a lift kit, I’m not worried.

I never found an aftermarket bumper that didn’t look like it was “super bro” aggressive. The Warn bumpers were decent looking but very industrial.

This isn't an easy question to answer, but I prefer a steel bumper over plastic. If you like the look of the stock steel, then go with it. If you plan to replace with an aftermarket version, then go with the plastic.

the steel bumper group is 1395.00. I feel like I could probably buy and aftermarket that looks a little better. When I buy something like that I like to see it person not online. I live in small town so I would probably have to travel 100 miles to see one. Do you think I could buy nice front and rear bumper for 1800. For the back bumper I would like the swing open tire carry.

You'll be able to get a quality pair for less than 2k, and it's perfectly ok to go with different brands for the front/rear. When you start adding things like powder coating (vs. bare steel), they'll be slightly higher. Then, do you want a stubby, mid, full...a bull bar, do you want it winch-ready...? There's nothing wrong with the stock steel bumpers. You can keep the front as a full, or you can remove the ends to make it a stubby. Your Wrangler will have a swing gate...it's not part of the rear bumper. Jeeps are typically meant to be customized, and owners like to put their own spin on them.

Here in the forums you'll find a whole lotta pics with various bumpers. Check out the LoD's, Smittybilt, Rugged Ridge, Magnum, Poison Spyder, AEV, ARB... the list goes on. Quadratec, Northridge 4x4 (to name a few), should give you an idea of what's out there.

I'd suggest combing through the forum. The aftermarket bumper list is a sticky & it's right on top of the exterior mods sub-thread. If you haven't seen it, it'll make your head spin, but...plenty of ideas and owner pics all over the place. But if you know you'll want an aftermarket, go with the plastic & put the loot towards what you really want.

If I would have had a choice, I would have gone with the plastic. I just remove the rear bumper anyway.
