Hello,

So I was installing the Teraflex HD Alpha Adjustable tire carrier over the weekend.

the new ‘21 OEM tire carrier is way more complicated to get your backup camera out, I ended up having to use a saw to get it out.

Anyways, the OEM tire carrier fell and the backup camera cable broke. I tried to repair the cable with no luck.

When I go into reverse, I see the guide lines but my screen is black.

I called my dealer and he found part “68488636AA”.

would this be the correct part number as I have been advised that one I install it and it doesn’t work, I can’t return it.

Thanks!

Why did you have to saw it off? Lets start with that first.
It looks like there is a strong glue they used to adhere the camera mount to the tailgate carrier. I didn’t want to apply too much pressure on the camera bracket, so instead I just saw’ed off the stem on the OEM tire carrier and was able to easily get the camera out.

I watched multiple videos and my camera bracket is not on older JL’s .. The old camera had holes around it. Where as the new cameras are clipped into a mounting piece with those holes.

I'm pretty sure the 21s with new camera also have the front camera. I have a 21 with the old camera.

Hmm that is odd. I had to contact Teraflex to provide me a new mount piece so I can mount the camera.

I think more people need to know this before ordering this.
And I did, which is why I got the new mounting piece from Teraflex before doing the install.

I did not know the Jeep tailgate carrier was changed as well. The Teraflex instructions only shows the ‘20 and older OEM carrier.

Yup! Lol

I know it’s hard for aftermarket companies to keep up with all the changes, but it would of been nice if the documentation was updated.

Bump and thanks, OP, for the part number. Cut my fiber optic cable as well trying to take out the back up camera to reinstall into my spare delete.

‘21s have the backup camera inner sheath glued to the outer plastic sheath. Was able to eventually punch out the inner sheath. PITA!

Yup! Big PITA. I ended up having to order a different wire .. the first wire they order was the optic wire that goes from the center console to the tailgate, which I didn’t need.

They finally ordered the right cable, which was a combo rear camera cable and 3rd break light cable.

If you need the part number for this, let me know.

Finally got it setup after waiting a month for the right cable

What‘s the correct P/N? I ordered the one in your first post. Guessing it’s one of these four…

Confirmed with OP that the ‘21 combo cable P/N is 68518261AA.

My advice is to remove the inner tailgate cover and unhook the rear brake light and backup camera cable connectors BEFORE trying to remove the rear tire carrier.

This way you can pull the combo cable out of the tailgate and place the rear tire carrier on a flat service to punch out the inner sheath to access the backup camera. My dumb ass cut the back up camera cable not knowing it was a fiber optic cable.
