I was wondering if anyone here has any info on why FCA did not release the JL with a Hardtop that has the removable side windows? They have them on the Sky one touch ...you would think it would be an even bigger draw for anyone on the fence for a hardtop.

Personally I would have loved it if they would have. Those side panels are super easy to remove!!!!!!

I thought you were talking about Freedom top panels that were see through. Like Trans Am t-tops!

But I like this idea, too. :like:

I don't think anyone can answer this. Unless there is an interview done with someone in the know at FCA/Jeep, we will rarely get answers on why they did or didn't do something. That kind of transparency doesn't really exist for most companies.

I believe an after market company, "RetroFit Off Road " is making either removeable and/or slider windows for 2 and 4 door hard tops .
Just in time for Spring, 2020 !

It's my guess that FCA felt that since the Power top isn't removable (at least with anywhere near the ease of the Hard or Soft top,) that without this feature of removable back side windows, that people might have been less attracted to the Power Top.

Of course if you're the awesome Jeff Scherb, you just make it yourself.

@jscherb

@four low if I'm not mistaken, it's Jeff that's working with Retrofit Off Road on this... https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...as-for-manufacturers.16236/page-7#post-797163 : - )

My guess would be selling point.

Sky one is just that...one top. No option to add a full soft top.

Telling a customer that the side windows pop off after informing them the sky one is permanent and cannot be taken out and replaced with a soft top is a good selling point.(separates the model from the others).

The "others" obviously have the option of having 2 tops. Not worth the engineering investment(and cost increase) if 99% of folks will just throw on a soft top. I dont think it would sell.

....just my 2½cents

To your point, I wouldn't be opposed to removable side windows but it's fine with me that they aren't removable. What I WOULD like is rear windows with sliders on them.

Yes, I'm all in for the sliders good idea!

By the time good weather comes around pop out windows would be a no for me (and a bit of a hassle if you ask me).

Think about it...2 freedom panels + 2 pop out windows = to many pieces to carry in the cargo area(maybe this is reason)

At the first crack of decent weather I'm throwing on the soft top..heck with pop out hard top windows.

A slider window kit for the JL will be on the market soon from Retrofit Offroad (this is a concept drawing of the JLU version):

I posted step-by-step instructions on another forum for converting a factory hardtop to modular with removable sides, the instructions are for the JK but the same procedure can be used to convert a JL/JLU hardtop...
