I wouldn’t do it in a vehicle with doors/top that can come off or a soft top. I ended up setting up a Hubitat with a smart garage so that I control with my iPhone which is at least secured if someone would get ahold of the phone.

WE park in the basement never outside. the small genie remote stays in the passenger door pocket. i have a clear lid on top and all four doors on jeep

Certain situations it might not be a good idea, for example: if there's a zombie apocalypse and you are almost to your garage, but you run out of gas 50 yards away. The remote won't work it's too far away. All you need to do is grab it and bring it with you, but you can't it's been integrated into the sun visor. That could pose as a problem. ?

For those saying they wouldn't want it in a vehicle with no top, the factory design is it is deactivated when the engine is off.

OP, to your question I don't think it's too bad. Look up replacing the visor. The only other step is hooking up the wire in the trim.

Not that I'm trying to talk you out of the sun visor, it looks very nice but what if you removed the clip from the remote and Velcro it to the visor? This way you can remove it anytime you want, no wires, saves $$. What do you think about that?

I have the factory homelink, which is what this is. It doesn't work when the Jeep is off.

so as long as the jeep is in the driveway it will work, i dont foresee the jeep not being there and not needing to remote the door opening. it has a wall mounted device that is hard wired so i would think i could still open it from the inside ,thanks for reply

Hey, sorry that I can't personally contribute to your question as to how difficult it is to install, but another user who also keeps their Jeep in the garage, I really like having it factory-installed on mine. A warning I would like to share though - without using a Tazer to change a program config, the visor won't work when the ignition is off.

That said, the website for the product (https://infotainment.com/shop/interior-accessories/homelink-garage-door-opener/c-kitvisor-18jl/) has an installation youtube video which makes it look like the process is fairly simple - provided that Jeep didn't get cheap and not provide the wiring that goes up to that point in the roll-bar/frame/whatever it's technically called.
