Hello JL readers, having some trouble chasing patterns. Would this pass, or can anyone provide guidance to improve this pattern?

Backlash is at .003" right now, if i take out .005" I am at .012" which is out of spec according to Dana.

Seems pretty close to the toe:

Then the coast side is out at the heel??

.003 seems very tight for Revolution gears. What is their spec for backlash? You should be following Revolution’s spec, not Dana’s. Dana gears are 2-cut, most aftermarket are 5-cut and require larger backlash.

I am a gear novice, but I would try slightly deeper on the pinion just to see how it changes. Willys41‘s suggestion of adding .005 makes sense. Your current pattern doesn’t look terrible to me.

I was going off the Dana spec, so this is good to know. Revolution specs .006-.010"

Might just get that into spec and rerun a pattern. I saw this from another post here:

Hate to drive out that pinion race if I dont have to! Got to this point with the write up from @chevymitchell - Thank you for putting that all together, it was more than helpful.

Yeah I would open up the backlash ever so slightly and re-run a pattern. You are really close. If you thin the paint more and add more resistance while turning you should get a little clearer pattern as well.
