I've been doing some research on the wrangler stock recovery points (front bumper upward-facing hooks and driver side rear hook). Couple people argue they're rated for recovery but many others claim they're NOT RATED FOR RECOVERY! and may only be used for flat towing. Since they're bolted onto the bumper and not the chassis I wouldn't put my money on the line with those. But a new bumper with shackle rings is out of the question for the moment so - WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?

Is there any product I can bolt onto the chassis? Not a fan of surface-welded recovery points.
If so, does this product require cutting into the bumper? Any suggestion? Maybe the only good alternative is a new bumper with recovery points built into it.

Also, is the rear recovery hook good enough? Since this one is bolted onto the chassis I would believe it is.

Not sure what your question is. But new bumpers is always the right answer. 🤓

The front tow hooks are definitely bolted right to the end of the frame. Not sure what source claims it isn't, but they're wrong. You'll see when you get in there to replace the bumper (cuz lets be honest, that's the ultimate solution anyway ;) )

That said, an open hook isn't the best design for a recovery point due to slippage, but it's absolutely strong enough to hold up to any tug you give it.

I agree. In a pinch I've pulled another jeep out of a mud pit by making a bridle out of a tree saver and winching him out. Shackles are always better but the angle made it secure.

The front tow hooks are bolted straight into the front of the frame rails. Definitely heavy duty. The rear is good enough but I have a hitch link to use for that anyway

Wow, thanks everyone, I wasn't expecting to get so much reasurance on the stock recovery points. It seems the bumper can wait a little.
