I'm sure all of us have had the experience of open the rear window during or after a rain and having the water shed right off onto the edge of the carpet. Or maybe like my wife... while I was holding the glass level and she was sitting changing her hiking boots and I let go of the glass and she got a bath and was pi$$ed at me :)

Anyway I was going to design something to keep this from happening but wondered if anyone else had already tossed out some ideas.

I hear you!!! Same.

Literally the only thing I miss about my Honda Pilot was when the rear hatch was open it provided an "awning" effect during rain. No suck luck on the JL. Clearly an after market opportunity for someone to design something, make it for $10 and charge $30. I'd buy one. Well....two, because my son would decide to hang off if it and it would break.

One very very simple idea I had was to get a piece of rope so that you could hold the window just below level. This way the water would run off the bottom end and offer some shelter like an SUV. You would simply need to rig up a hook on either end of the rope, however the rope would need to be adjustable in case you were on any sort of incline/decline so you could level the window.
There I just disclosed my patent and now someone else will become a millionaire :)

Yeah, a rope is too simplistic. We need something automated, so we can try to squeeze another wire through the firewall from the battery. ;) *LOL*

First of all, this thread got hilarious real quick. Anyhow, I experienced this problem and was shocked I didn’t find more threads about it when I first searched. I had plans to try mounting something like this upside down along the top of the window, but the last few times I went camping it didn’t rain so I never got around to trying it to see how it worked.

That's a great idea. Basically put it like a slight frown at the top of the window so the water running down shoots off the sides.
Still need my great invention though to use the rear glass more like and suv for keeping the rain off if you are getting stuff out of the rear or using it for shelter like when getting out of muddy boots.
