Question: 285/17/17.......

is a 285/70/17considered by folks to be a 33” tire? I know that it calculates a little less than that but I am curious what folks say here.

I am new to off-roading and I am looking at various trails and difficulty ratings. Some of the descriptions say “33-inch+ tires needed”........ me being me, I am probably overthinking this but...... is a 285/70/17 a “33 inch tire”?

The diameter is 32.7" but on the Jeep with 36psi the true diameter will be closer to 31.75". It's still called a 33" tire though. The 285/75/17 is an inch taller. Here's a great calculator for comparing tires.

I run 295/70/17 and they are a bit over 33, but loaded they run 32.75".

Mfr tire sizes are unloaded/unmounted measurement. Mine say 32.7. Measured on the jeep at 32 psi they are right at 32"
and are 305/65/17
