I traded my 2010 jk in on 2018 jl rubicon in July. Ran wonderfully for about 600 miles then it started running rough. Took it to local jeep dealer in august 17 , they replaced catalytic converter and O2 sensors. Then it developed a misfire on cylinder 2. After a few weeks they decided to replace ECM . Computer arrived this Monday (11/27) and now it will not run over 3000 rpm. I have lost faith in Jeep dealer starting to lose it in Jeep. Only saving grace is it has a warranty. Any ideas on how to fix or do I need to find another older jeep.

Welcome to the forum.

That sucks. Unfortunately, you need to have the Jeep fixed under warranty. If you try to fix it yourself, the repair will be on you.

Contact @JeepCares to see if they can have your vehicle transferred to a more competent dealer.

If the next dealer still remains unable to repair the vehicle, you may want to see if it qualifies for a buyback.

Sadly, this is a tedious and onerous process, but the only way to have a resolution with the minimum financial impact to you.

Hope you get things resolved.

Unfortunately dealers don't diagnose very well due to time constraints, lack of experience etc. If you have the 3.6l v6 these motors have lifter cam failures. Most likely due to the oil galley plugs that come loose or fall out causing low oil pressure to the heads. Low oil pressure to the heads will also cause cam phasers issues that will miss time the camshaft causing missfires.

The very first thing I would do is pull the coils and check the plugs. Actually, check to see if the plugs are even torqued down properly. A loose or broken plug, or stripped threads in the head can cause a serious vacuum leak that will make it run terrible. Once the plugs are out inspect them to make sure they all have the same burn pattern and that no elctrodes are missing and that none are carbon or oil fouled.

If the plugs were tight, and no threads were stripped, then go ahead and replace the plugs since they are out. No sense in putting the old ones in, unless they look new. Now, once the plugs are back in, replace the coils and see if the issue persists. If so, then one or more of the coils is likely bad. If you have access to a scanner, you can tell which cylinder is misfiring. If not, buy one new coil and swap it with a cylinder one at a time until you find where the misfire was.

Also, If the misfire was bad enough, one of the spark plugs you removed will tell you which cylinder it was.

If you found stripped threads, you will need to have it repaired with a heli-coil or timesert kit. If you don't know how to use one, your local independent shop does. I doubt the Jeep dealer would do that, they would want to replace the entire head.

Quality? We don’ need no stinky quality. This is a Jeep… seriously, did I miss something or isn’t this an ā€˜18, in which case any warranty has long since disappeared in the ether..
