i dont have this problem, because i use the same gas station. but i've come ( on vacation ) across a station or two with this issue. the result is a bad seal or fast pump.

Stu: nothing for nothing but is your Tennessee a State that permits the gas pumped to be locked in the on position or is it more like a dead man switch that requires you to constantly apply pressure to the release mechanism (a requirement adopted by some other States, California not being one I'm to understand)? Most times I fill up my tank, the gas pump clicks and stops pumping before my tank is full. Sometimes it’ll click a few time right at the beginning, sometimes it’ll be half way through. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a fix? Surely it’s not user error.

Second State related question: does Tennessee [still] mandate those rubber gaskets on the end of the nozzle to prevent fumes from filling up gasoline in your rig from escaping into the air?
I ask this because the stop system on these nozzles is based on the fact that liquid flowing through a pipe will cause any hole in the pipe to suck in air (a Venturi): as per holes at the end of the nozzle. When gasoline rises high enough, (or as @JoeValkIS Joe alludes to, the hole is made larger/smaller) the suction can stop (as is the case when gasoline rises high enough in the tank to block this suction when things work right) which gets the handle to revert back in effect to as if it weren't depressed.)
Accordingly pulling out on the nozzle a bit and slowing the flow both may help this suction to continue and the pumping to not prematurely cut off.
You find this problem (again as someone asked) across gas stations, and I'll add, specific to your JL at those gas stations?
Cheers
P.S. my dealer told me to make sure I hear 3 clicks when tightening the cap. I got a check engine light because fumes were escaping the cap that had been torqued with less clicks, and a $100 bill for them tp pinpoint this non-problem.
Had the same issue when I had a 2007 Silverado lol.i havent had this with my Jeep yet but i did have this problem with my silverado. i used to just turn the nozzle/handle sideways that tended to do the trick. its something to do with the back flow in the smaller fuel necks. it used to drive me nuts!. even worse is some gas stations where fine and others it would click 10-15 times before it was half full!
