I just put new wheels and tires on my Jeep. I sent a picture to a friend who pointed out the tire says “‘This side inboard” on the outside and explained to me why the tires are mounted incorrectly. I went back to Discount Tire who then said the tires are fine. Are they ok? Are they not? Can someone shed light on this for me? I know nothing about this subject to talk intelligently on it.

Note: the front facing picture is the right side if you are looking directly at it

From the Goodyear site:

Proper Mounting of Asymmetrical Tires
These tires feature certain road-holding characteristics and wet traction technology in very specific areas of the tire, such as in the outer tread block. When mounted incorrectly on the inside of the tire, this tread—designed to be on the outside of the tire—proves less effective at performing its intended function. Simply have your tire(s) dismounted and reinstalled correctly.

Asymmetrical tires are designed to enhance traction, handling, and cornering capabilities while reducing noise. These tires are often found on sport performance vehicles. The tires can rotate in either direction when mounted with the correct side facing out, as indicated on the tire sidewall.

And thanks for showing pictures of your wheels and tires. I've been resisting buying new ones for my Rubi because I hate replacing items that are in good shape but those pictures have my resistance waning. Just don't show a picture of your Jeep with them. Please, don't.

I am going to go round 2 with these guys about this. I'll let you know what they say tomorrow!

Ya I need to double check mine but I'm positive it's backwards. It should be the individual lug on the inside chassis side while the longer lug section is aimed outboard

Thank you. When I took it by yesterday he said that as long as the DOT is on the outside you are good. I said okay and went about my business. Then later on checked and DOT is on both sides so that isn't legit.

Just by looking at them, the tread blocks look backwards of what i've seen before.

Odd thing is I've ran them backwards many times due to flats and running the spare, being too lazy to properly rotate/balance but I never had performance or traction issues. My buddy who runs these as well just kept making comments so I changed it for his OCD sake lol

Best tires imo tho still, GYMTR for life

Yup that is opposite of mine. Funny thing is, it clearly states "This side inboard" so I asked why would they put that on the tire if it didn't matter? He didn't really have an answer except for stating that Goodyear is different than all the rest and they do weird things. I was just like oooookay

Good to know you haven't had issues. My friend was explaining that it matters, especially being my daily driver, during times it's raining because of the tire's treads and they are specifically designed a certain way.

Discount Tire strikes again. At least you didn't have a wheel fall off before you got home.

Later,
Johnny

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Yep, they don't print "This Side Inward" just for shits & giggles, doubt you would notice a significant decrease in performance but???. Having them mounted as the tire design was engineered should result in optimum performance, wear, and piece of mind.

Don't let them leave them as-is, they owe you a proper install.
