I've been debating between running a Thule Motion Box or a Traditional Thule Snowpack Style Rack.

With a traditional rack, I wasn't sure if there would be enough clearance to mount snowboards base to base.

With a box, was wondering if anyone has installed one without c channels or if they're necessary. Would love to see what type of ski/snowboard set-ups people have platforms.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'd strongly recommend the Thule Snowpack Extender rack. Being able to slide the entire rack out over the side of the vehicle is a game changer, making it easy to load and unload the rack while standing on the ground. If you have either a regular ski rack or the box you have to climb up and reach.

I can't speak for the boxes but to mount the rack to the Pioneer Platform you'll need the Rhino-rack Accessory Bars For Pioneer Platform. Make sure you get the right size for your pioneer platform. You'll likely also need the Replacement Tall Foot Extension for Thule SnowPack Ski and Snowboard Carrier. The standard feet that come with the rack are made for two raised bars with nothing between them. On the pioneer platform they set the rack a little too low for some bindings to the clear the flat platform. The extensions lift the rack about 1". They oddly don't come with longer bolts but they are standard M6 bolts available at the hardware store.
