@VKSheridan ... Sorry to dig up this thread but I am also in the boat of replacing my pinion seal. Do you have any updates on this? Any more tips/tricks?
We’ve put another 12,000 miles on the Jeep with nothing to write home about. The pinion is still dry, the differential still full and no bearings, teeth or ritualistic steam/smoke from the proverbial pumpkin so I put it in the win category.

As for tips, don’t be surprised if you and the pinion nut disagree on the definition of tight when you’re reseating the yoke. It takes more torque than a slip spline shaft ever would so don’t be afraid to twist it. Thats not saying to crack out your 3/4” drive CP impact gun with the air pressure cranked to 150 but don’t think a 1/2” drive ratchet will pull it to seat. At least it didn’t for mine.
