Thank you! 👍
I just wanted to second the recommendation by @Fly2crawl to get the tune done. However, IMO, I feel that the tune may not be enough for your situation. The main problem with the 6MT is that it is undergeared from the factory, even with 4.10s. Even without towing a load, I feel that 4.56s is the perfect gearing for 33s or 4.88s for 35s. I have been in too many scenarios where I just didn't have enough torque in the current gear, but downshifting would have resulted in revving the engine way too high for my liking.

So before you go down this path, just consider what you might be getting yourself into. You could trade in for an automatic which will definitely handle towing better; I would probably recommend this route if you didn't really enjoy driving manuals, but it sounds like you do enjoy it. Also, if you get an automatic, I would still recommend getting the tune anyway as it does make the engine so much smoother, plus I heard the transmission tune is superb as well. So if you went this route, I don't think you are saving any money compared to the alternative of tuning/regearing your current vehicle.

You could tune and regear your vehicle, which will probably cost $4,000 - $4,500 total. If you ever wanted to run 35s, you would need a regear anyway, so that would be a good excuse to go to 4.88s. But for 33s, I think 4.56s would be adequate, assuming you get the tune as well. I think you will be pleased with this route. Can I say from personal experience? Not really. I have experience with the tune, and I have experience with a regear on a different JL. Both help significantly, but I haven't towed significant loads with either.

Would an automatic be better in terms of towing performance? Yes, no question about that. But I think the quality of life would be significantly improved enough with the regear and tune that the joy of driving the 6MT would outweigh the performance of the 8AT.

It would be difficult, but maybe you could find a 6MT with 4.88s on a dealer lot that you could test drive?
