Phone forgetting Uconnect Bluetooth

My Samsung S21 would sporadically forget the Uconnect Bluetooth, forcing me to re-pair my device. I was finally able to figure out what causes it: it's when I have my phone connected through Android Auto, I leave the car (open and close door, wait until dash is off) with the phone connected and then get back in and turn on the car. Have you ever had the same issue? It looks like when the dash turns off the phone sees the USB connection as a storage device or something and this causes it do disconnect from Bluetooth. My Uconnect software version is 39.6.
Not a huge deal since I mostly use Android Auto, but it happens every time I get gas for example which is too often not to be bothered.

Does the problem go away if you unplug before shutting down the radio? I would rather have the BT than Android auto. It is getting annoying that I can only do one, but don't like having to plug my phone in every time I drive to listen to music. I don't use the features of AA.

Yes, if you unplug within one minute or so of turning off the engine/power the Bluetooth stays connected. It's a bit annoying, as I need to unplug every time I get gas or do a quick stop, but I just got used to it. It's sad that Uconnect still has these bugs, given that so many different vehicles use it.
