I dont think the sides and back count as part of the top any longer. Just not 100% how it works with the soft tops. The Admin posted that the following top options will be available:

  • ST2 - Premium Black Sunrider Soft Top
  • STB - Premium Black Soft Top (No Description Available)
  • STJ - Black Power Soft Top (scheduled for production beginning May 14, 2018 according to our recently revealed timeline)
So maybe its something like this:

  • ST2 - Premium Black Sunrider Soft Top - Hybrid soft top with hard side panels (think renegade style, like the power top by manual) Sunrider says to me top off but not necessary 100% opne.
  • STB - Premium Black Soft Top (No Description Available) - Traditional Soft Top
  • STJ - Black Power Soft Top - Top shown in the spy photo I posted above again with hard again with some type of hybrid structure)
More like this...

  • ST2 - Premium Black Sunrider Soft Top - traditional soft top with sunrider (if it was a hybrid, i think they would have designated it so)
  • STB - Premium Black Soft Top (No Description Available) - Traditional Soft Top without sunrider
  • STJ - Black Power Soft Top - THIS would be more of your hybrid. A source already said (Maybe Milous) it would be more like the "SkySlider" found on libertys.
This picture shows, to me, the hard sides, with soft center that is powered and opens up

This would be my guess now as well. It certainly appears that the center of that top is black fabric, while the 'surrounds' are 'hard top'. Totally looks like a version of the KK Liberty's MySky power sliding soft top.

Yea I think your right....

  • ST2 - Premium Black Sunrider Soft Top - traditional soft top with sunrider (btw I just google Sunrider and see how its basically freedom panels on a softtop .... didn't know this existed :P

With that said I think the photo you posted though proves my theory even more, as it show the back window structure can/is separate from the top.

I'm thinking the rear glass may have more to it than the JK. Zoom in on this photo:

PH-802009999.jpg

1. Notice the gas struts - they go all the way down to the bottom of the hard top. I'm going to hit them loading hockey bags for sure - but why are they mounted that way now?
...
8. Location of the wiper and motor now adds more load to the gas lift struts. JK location closer to hinges easier on them.
That additional load on the struts from the relocated wiper motor/assembly is probably what prompted the relocation of the gas struts.

I think it's totally possible that the powered version may have removable side panels.

Thinking the top sides - rails - and the rear window surround are essentially fixed. Fabric slides back on top (removable?) and the side windows and rear glass pop off.

Like a thick roll cage, the top rails and rear window loop remain.

Odds are this top comes with a storage bag for the sides and rear glass.

Your original theory is that the entire roof comes off leaving hard panels/windows in the rear?
The entire roof coming off was already known. My theory was and is that the rear panels are removable aside from the entire roof, leaving behind a "cage" like structure.

OK. I guess we will see when it launches. But I find it hard to believe they would have named it 3 piece when the current one is called a 3 piece.
