I lived 3 summers during college in Corolla doing ATV Tours to see the horses and had to drive trucks on that beach every day. Make sure you air down your tires before getting on the beach. Also during high tide you will have to drive in the softer sand that has really deep ruts. Do not ever stop when you are in that soft rutted out sand. I would see 3-4 jeeps/trucks/SUV’s get stuck each week and 99% of them happened because they stopped in high soft sand.
