Base oil shortage due to war in Iran, all oils are affected.
Not Amsoil. Amsoil uses Group IV PAO, synthesized in Wisconsin, not the Middle East. Mobil 1, Pennzoil, Castrol, Valvoline all use Group III base oil is refined crude from the Persian Gulf.

Refined from natural gas not crude oil.

I’m not sure about the natural gas aspect of refinement but I’m sure you are right. All I know is, although there is one higher group of lubricants in Group V that is a grease lubricant I believe used in industrial applications. The advantage of Group IV base oils is that they are made from polyalphaolefins (PAO), which are chemically engineered, synthesized (synthetic) base oils. PAOs offer excellent stability, molecular uniformity and improved performance and are about as “synthetic” as it gets. All I know is I’ve used Amsoil in all of my rigs for 45 years and performance has been and still is top notch. Amsoil does change formulations from time to time but to only deliver a better higher performing product and to keep up with industry standards and higher revving and heat producing engines. Although I haven’t had any issues with ordering Amsoil recently I’ve had issues with the Amsoil filters being out of stock for whatever reason. I won’t use just any filter, it has to be an Amsoil filter as well.

I finally had a chance to watch the vid and I see the NG component now you were talking about. But, all comparisons are done re: Group III oils, no comparison to Group IV which tells me Amsoil users need not and have never had to be concerned about protection at any point. That’s a good feeling.
