I have 'free' oil changes at the dealership for my JL - but I find it's such a hassle to book and get it in for a change.

Would I have any issues doing oil changes myself with regard to the warranty? What do I need to do to ensure I don't 'void' it?

Should be okay if keeping personal maintenance records (date/mileage when changed) and copies of your store receipts for oil and filter purchases.

Sounds good - would it be advisable to use Mopar oil and filters? I imagine they are just rebranded aftermarket oils/filters, though.

Use what you are comfortable using as long as it is a quality oil and filter. There's no hard fast rule that says you must use Mopar. In fact, most that do their own oil changes do not. Heck, I know a Jeep dealership that uses Pennzoil.

Not sure what engine you have, but the owner's manual specifically states to only use motor oils adhering to certain approvals that should meet or exceed that of the recommended Mopar oil (ie, the 3.6L oil should have the Chrysler MS-6395 certification and carry an API star on the packaging).

And in addition to using the recommended weight/viscosity (ie, 0W-20), it'd also be a good idea to use an oil that's rated for at least the mileage you'll be changing at or higher (ie, Mobil-1 Extended Performance is good for up to 20,000-mile intervals, while their standard full-synthetic oil is only rated for up to 10,000-miles).

Factory Mopar filters would be a safe choice and are relatively inexpensive, but if using something different, I'd recommend at least sticking with a common name-brand (Fram, K&N, Purolator, etc).

I have always wondered the same thing. I do keep a detailed record on all maintenance on all vehicles. I figured , not sure if it's correct but credit card statements could kinda track purchases made since most of my oils and filters I buy in bulk by mail. My feeling I have never trusted some of the people my local dealers have working , crazy as it may be I'll eat the cost to change it myself and not worry that they torque the snot out of the filler cap. Just my way .

All my dealers in the area can change oil with no appointment. Yes might take a hour or so but no problem to get in

I’ve never had to prove my oil changes in the past for warranty work with any Jeep I have owned.

There is one issue about Dealership Oil Changes……They use the most JUNIOR TECHS in the bay to do these changes and the possibility of issues does crop up. The Dealership I used to work at started the Techs doing these type of jobs, oil changes, tire rotations, some small part swaps like filters, wipers and such.

These are all things I do for myself so that I know what is going on in my vehicle, especially My JEEP.
Things like Air Filters, both Cabin and Engine I put a date and the mileage of the change down so I can see what is going on. This time of year around here the Cottonwoods are putting down enough of their stuff that some yard it looks like a lite blanket of snow.

I also log and keep electronic receipts of everything that I buy at either the dealer, AutoZone, or Advance Auto.

17 different jeeps never a problem with warranty. I did most maintenance myself along with all fluid changes.

Have you ever had to replace an engine?
Been driving since 1984, all my cars have been on their original engine. Only had to remove 1 engine for repairs and that was our Audi because the timing chains are on the backside of the engine.

My aunt had to replace an engine because Jiffy Lube stripped the drain bolt. It was a bit of a fight but JL paid for the short block and labor

That would be nice, but the dealers here make me book an appointment IF I can get through to the service department. It takes a long time and honestly, I could do the oil in the time it takes to even book the appointment.
