So... while I wait patiently (ha) for my jl to come home I have decided to start a new toy project and want some advice. I want to get an older 2dr (auto) and completely gut the interior (dash, seats ect) and for the exterior... the whole enchilada from lift to bumpers. What is good year to choose for this? I want to be sure there are plenty of parts, accessories, hardware, ect available to choose from. I was hoping to steal my mothers 2000 custom sahara and continue to mod it, but she refused (can't blame her for not giving up her side toy)... so thoughts on years and/or models? Thx!

I would do a tj if you plan on taking it that far down. Our jk is gutted like that (ls3, sheet metal dash, racepak dash ect) and honestly the tj will just be easier to work with. You can do a v8 in it easily without having to worry about all the integration like you would on a jk. Suspension design would be similar between jk and tj but the tj frame in my opinion is easier to work with when it comes to custom. If you have never taken a vehicle to just a frame and tub and built it all the way up plan on spending some serious time on it. It's a big big job and takes a whole lot of planning before you take the first bolt out. I probably have 100 hours of cad time alone in this one with all the revisions we did before we settled on something. The swap had about 4 weeks of me and a tech every day on it to get it to this point.
