Hey yall! I’m Scott and new to the group.
I have a 2018 pumpkin orange rig and the paint is fading horribly. I took in in to have it serviced and the service manager told me it looked horrible and filed a warranty claim. Naturally it was denied.

What do yall think? It only has 49000 miles and I wax it religiously. Am I nuts to expect a paint job to last more than 5 years, especially after such amazing care?

The orange is almost yellow in some spots.

I’ll grab some in the morning. The service manager took a ton too.

Wasn’t there another thread about this not too long ago from another member?

@Cunnsco Is it the hood that’s faded badly? Unfortunately that’s been a common occurrence with the Punkin Metallic.

Mine has faded badly as well.

I have a 2019 Pumpkin Orange JLU that also has fading. My hood is a lighter color than the front end. The cowl covers are another shade compared to the rest of the Jeep. I didn't try to get it fixed as I figured the dealer would give me the runaround. I bet there are more pumpkin orange jeep owners with the same problem. We could get together and file a mass complaint.

So the thing with colors like Punk'n and Bikini is they are a bit complex and not just plain old paint. they are actually painted white, then the orange is a transparent layer, think like a tint basically, the white is was makes it pop and why it a more vibrant color. also, if you look at an orange JK, a similar slow fade can be seen on them. There is a high chance the fade is not the coloring but just the clear coat becoming so damage over time that the vibrancy of the orange is not as apparent. I know lot's of the JK guys had it looking like new after a good strip and paint correction. Adding layer upon layer of wax could also be a heavy cause. think how if you layered multiple clear ziploc bags on top of one another, whatever color was under the bag becomes harder to see with every layer of bag added. The biggest thing to keep in mind with ANY FCA/Stellantis paint job on any of their vehicles, is that they have bright beautiful colors, that are not quality expensive paint jobs. Lot's of work is required to make these vehicle look nice after a few years, add that to the laundry list of clear coat issues and chips/bubbles/flakes in multiple areas that occurs on multiple models. I always try to have people understand a Jeep is NOT a show vehicle, it's simply not built to that quality no matter how much they are charging or how much we paid or love our Jeeps. You can attempt to make it that, but it takes lots of work

It is 100% the paint. It’s a completely different color now.
It would be cool if FCA or whoever would just take accountability for the all of the paint issues the ‘18s through 20/21s had but they won’t and that’s life.

Paint issues have been present all the way back in 97 even. This is not a luxury car company

The hood is the worst but even the tub around the tailgate is really off too

I realize that and didn’t buy another Jeep for the “luxury”. Anyone thinking a Jeep is a luxury vehicle is in for a shock.
Sad how the paint on my ‘89 has held up better than my ‘18 though. The YJs color has held up and is consistent on the body panels and hood. No fade, no weird corrosion, nothing but well earned pin striping.

Ever since the Daimer occurrence, all the Chrysler vehicle heavily suffered longevity in paint in numerous other things. AMC days things were built for strength and durability first. Now it's all appeal and margins. I get it, it sucks. Just don't expect Jeep to care. They are too money hungry to even design a clutch that doesn't slip and overheat and would rather just make software to shut the vehicle down when it does.

Hey yall! I’m Scott...
Just how many Jeep owners are named Scott?

Paint issue seems to be an ongoing issue. There's a decent chance keeping your Jeep constantly covered in mud no different than a elephant in the Sahara, will help keep it cool and paint issues free.

Beyond that if you're out of warranty, maybe a new paint job wouldn't be bad. Might have recommend a truck bed coating, going to hold up a lot better than regular automotive paint. If you are in warranty, get it fixed now before you are out of it.

I know damn well it isn’t a luxury car but it’s my wife’s Jeep. It stays on pavement and in the climate controlled garage. It has been faithfully hand waxed every 3-4 months.

I fully expect a jeep’s paint from the factory to last more than 4-5 years, especially in that environment….

Trust me, we all do. But here we are.
