Nerf Bar Question

Is there a similar style bar that doesn’t sit so far from the body? This doesn’t look very strong or good being so far out from the pinch seam.

There's dozens of options out there, some a little closer to the pinch seam and others farther out. It's not clear what your main goal is- are you using them as a step or for protection? Or are you shooting for both? If your goal is protection, those don't look like they would hold up very well off-road. If you are exclusively looking for a step to get into the Jeep, you'll be fine. And most rock sliders will sit a bit off the Jeep to allow for a little flex when balancing the vehicle on a rock!
