So it's happened twice in the past week. I get ready leave for work, and my JL is dead! As soon as I felt the brake pedal stiff, I knew it was dead...sure enough it didn't crank. This is the 2nd time in recent times so I've been paying attention to turn off the AC, radio and making sure the vehicle shuts off. I actually left it on once and when my wife arrived from work a few hours later asked why my Jeep was on. I didn't even hear it (it's quiet). A quick jump from my wife's vehicle and we're off. Starts up in the afternoon fine (hope it does today as well). Any ideas? Tips? Normal with the 2.0? Why is the brake pedal stiff and doesn't go all the way down? Thanks for any tips.

How old is the battery
I bought the vehicle new 2 years ago. I'm just wondering why the brake pedal is stiff and that automatically lets me know its dead.

IIRC, there is a supplemental electric vacuum pump for the booster, may be contributing to the brake feel.

I'd swap the battery(ies) out asap, sounds like they're on their last leg.

I have had this issue once. I was running errands on a warm summer day. After the 4th stop in less than an hour, the JL would not start. The brake pedal was very stiff. Pressing the pedal a lot harder than normal allowed it to start.

ETA: 2021 JLUR-XR with 3.6 eTorque. Tazer installed and using the Tazer PIN function. Not sure if Tazer had anything to do with it.

Coincidentally, I was just thinking about that very thing this morning: how quiet the 2.0T's warm idle actually is. It's quite a contrast from the mechanically busy sounds it makes after a cold start.

No, non-start events are definitely not normal for or limited to that engine.

Anyway, you might consider purchasing a lithium jump pack for peace of mind, no matter the state of the vehicle or its batteries (or the forgetfulness of its owner ;)). I use and recommend Antigravity, but there's any number of brands available.

My first thought with these types of issues is the aux battery. If you can't narrow it down to something else I would replace it and the main battery. When the aux battery goes it sucks the life out of the main battery, so you are better off replacing both at the same time. As you have a 22 it might be covered under warranty.

Thinking of disconnecting as well. I'll take it first to the dealer to check under warranty first as I don't want them telling me the issue is because it was disconnected or some BS to get away from replacing them. Thanks

Sounds like battery issues I would replace both. As the bad battery will suck the life out of the good battery. In my Ram as gone thru batteries every two years

Well, took it yesterday to the dealer and they replaced both batteries under warranty. I ended up buying a small battery charger from Amazon for $50 and it saved me at least twice per day for a week until my appt....gonna keep that thing charged and stored in back. What I'm trying to do is remind myself to turn off that ESS crap as soon as I start the vehicle, but unfortunately, I've forgotten a few times and then it shuts down at a light....the scars are fresh and I think "damn, I'm dead again".. What I noticed is that as soon as it happens, I turn it off and sure enough it starts up. Thanks to all the replies as I made sure to speak knowledge when I went to the dealer. I insisted both batteries be replaced, just in case they would try to stiff me....never had an issue with this dealer (3rd Wrangler & 1 Cherokee from them), but you never know.

Free way to disable the ESS is to unplug the hood plunger switch. You will get a chime and dash light but whatever.
Mines been unplugged for over 3-1/2 years now

I had a dash cam go faulty. Kept running the battery down. Didn't figure it out right away.
