Mine was flashed on June 18th. This TSB means nothing. The software has been out there forever, you just need a dealer competent enough to flash it for you. I was actually in for the U62 recall which requires a reflash of the PCM, but by default that flash updated my 4-door with the proper steering calibration also.

Since then, I can drive with one hand. Even if there's a semi truck next to me on the interstate, something that would have been scary before! Cured!
Is there a version number some where to see if it has the current flash update? If yes, how and what version do you have?

I think all 4 ball joint nuts near loose should be top priority to check not seen on this list.
Can you elaborate on "4 ball joint nuts near loose"? I was speaking with a service advisor on the phone today and he wasn't sure what this meant. Do you mean they came lose and need to be tightened? We they overtightened in the factory like the control arms and need to be loosened and tightened to the proper torque, or ? Thanks again for your help on this.

This is a good video, At 5:25 he talks about the ball joints answering your question.

Not sure on version number. If there's a way to find it, let me know and I'll post that up.

Basically, ANY update of your PCM should fix you up if you've got the steering issue because the calibration that's on the Jeep when it leaves the factory is wrong. So when they do the flash for your VIN, by default it changes the calibrations to where they should be, one of which is the steering.

Here is the video of how i adjusted my steering box adjuster

Perfect video that shows exactly what to do to adjust the steering box. Why didn't the dealer adjust it for you by the way?

Enter dealer mode - Hold your driver's side temperature up, temperature down and front defrost buttons simultaneously. I'm not sure though which data reflects the latest Flash update though. Can you surf through the menus to see if you can find it? FYI: It took me 4 tries to get the dealer mode to show up. You have to press all 3 buttons exact at the same time and try letting go immediately and also try holding them down for an extended period. I'm not sure which worked for me as I got frustrated and something worked. lol

They tried but the adjuster was locked solid. They then placed an order for a new steering box which is on backorder for who knows how long. Plus the service manager was concerned that a new superseded part number was not yet available for the new steering boxes.

Yeah, but you figured it out, shouldn't they of figured out how (heat gun) since they are the "professionals"? Kudos to you for doing what they couldn't (or wouldn't do), but curious why they didn't do what you did. Also, about the part number - is the new steering box on order with a new design, or just the same design as the original steering box? Or did you mean something else? By the way, do you know how to figure out what software / flash version a JL has? I stumbled on the dealer mode - Hold your driver's side temperature up, temperature down and front defrost buttons simultaneously, but I'm not sure which item is the software / flash version.

I agree Thank you!!! I guess to them the logical thing to do was order a new steering box. I don't know the exact part number but the one he ordered had AC at the end. FCA part numbers first gen is usually AA. But he could not find any prior part number with AA or AB so he was concerned the steering box he would receive would still have an issue. The person at FCA Corporate contacted the regional repair rep along with the service manager and he was instructed to perform the TSB because it was "fixing everyone else's steering issue".

I had mine in the shop for a squeak in the shift linkage and also have play and the dead spot in the steering. I referenced the TSB when I checked in today and just found out that they are not touching it because it’s not associated with my VIN And the steering is operating as designed per there tech...

Not thrilled to hear this and kind of half expected it. Just need to find a better deal that actually try to fix customers concerns versus these high-volume jokers.
SWIRVN,

We're sorry to hear that this happened. Please PM us with your dealer so that we can give them a call.

I have an appointment at the local Jeep store to do the flash deal (TSB 08-092-18). Hopefully that helps with tracking on the highways. Feeling optimistic! Will report on results.
