I discovered, tonight, that my new house (built in ‘83) has 1 5/8” doorknob holes. I never knew there was such a thing. What a PITA.

Anyway, I just ordered an “oops arbor” to (hopefully) make enlarging the holes to 2 1/8” dummy proof (I’m the dummy who will be taking a hole saw to my doors so we can have pretty matte black knobs).

Has anyone done this job, before? Any pointers?

I was going to just make a jig out of 3/4” plywood and clamp it on each door to guide the hole saw, but this “oops arbor” thing looks better.

Alright, no one replied so nobody cares... nonetheless, here’s my update. Maybe Google will bring some home repair DIY guy here and he’ll decide he needs an oops arbor and a Wrangler.

In a nutshell, this tool is ingenious. It was DEAD SIMPLE to enlarge a 1 5/8” doorknob hole to 2 1/8”. (You can do any size holes you want, those are just what I needed.)

10/10 recommend this thing (along with a good quick release mandrel).
