A remote microphone is useful for finding unknown noises. Mechanics have a variety of wired and wireless remote mikes. The mikes are attached to various places under the vehicle and are used to zero in on the noise. A pair of cell phones can be used in a pinch, zip-tied onto various locations under the Jeep.

I would start by listening to the transmission and then move rearward.
