I want to switch from 18's to 17's on my Sahara. I like these wheels (1st link below) and the price is okay. However they are roughly 1/2 the price of all other Mopar wheels. The 2nd link is an example of the typical prices for similar wheels.

Why? Is there a distinction in quality/strength? Need something to last long term through rough roads and New England winters. Any insights appreciated.

Mopar wheels aren’t a bargain. There are MANY equally strong aftermarket options with the same offset. For starters you might check out the Tire Tack and Discount Tire websites.

I’m not sure why you want smaller diameter wheels — there are lots of tire options in 18s— but if you think you might ever want to upgrade your brakes you need to do your homework. For the Alcons, for example, some 17s will clear the calipers, but others won't

My assumption would be that the Willys wheel is available as standard equipment on a popular model. The Moab trim IIRC was short lived and low production.

If you want to stay Mopar, I'd look for new take offs for some savings, likely getting you a wheel and tire set for the same price as just the wheels new.

The higher priced wheel is the exact same wheel that came on my Jeep from the factory. The prices on both of those wheels are way too much. You can find brand new take off wheels, in a set of 5, for around $500-700. You can often find an entire set of 5 brand new wheels and tires off of a Rubicon for around $1500 on you local Facebook, Craigslist, Offer Up, etc.

Not the question. Looking for replies specific to the post. I have looked at many after market wheels frankly don't like most of them. Many members on this board recommended going to 17"s for a better ride.

I was hunting for a set of Rubicon XR wheels and the Mopar price point was through the roof!

My only guess is for some of the Mopar wheels there is much less supply and much higher demand, hence the huge price mark up. I have never seen anything indicating any actual difference in materials or quality.

I was planning to buy a set of the member marketplace on this site...in the end I simply purchased a new '23 Rubicon XR...

See post #3. Are you looking for a metallurgy study on the two wheels?

The Mopar alloy wheels are made in China, just like 99% of all the aftermarket ones. Nothing special about them.

If you look at aftermarket wheels, make sure you get hubcentric ones, and make sure that the offset will work with your intended suspension choice.

Most of these replies are folks just trying to help you save some money. The strength of either wheel will be identical. Who knows why the Moab wheel is more, probably as some said, the Moab option was limited in numbers. I do agree it looks better, but that is a hefty price.

I have a Sahara as well, but on 17" KMC aftermarket wheels and 315/70R17 tires. I thought the Sahara was fine on 18's, but it more depends on what your end game is, and I don't believe you will feel that much different of a ride (though I don't have first hand experience). If you move to 17's what size tire do you want, and in the future what size do you want to be at? I was originally going to move from the 255/70R18 (32") to 275/70R18 (33") but going any larger than that on stock wheels you will encounter rubbing issues at full turn (or if you want a lift later on). I decided to moved to ~35" size, so going to 17" provided a much larger array of both wheel and tire options.

All good if you want to stay with a stock wheel, but definitely search around for people selling their take-offs after they've upgraded. You can save a boatload this way and stick with Mopar wheels.

My 2022 Willys came new with the MOAB wheels. They are nice but not Mopar price nice.
