I’ve been wanting to changing out the plastic side steps on my wrangler, which I figured would be an easy task. After reading all the horror stories on the under frame bolts (red loctite and breaking off in frame) I’m hesitant to even try. I was wondering (for a small change) if the Mopar tubular side steps will mount to the same bracket as the plastic one, and if I could just remove the plastic ones from the bracket and mount the tube steps to the bracket without removing it from the frame. Any help out there?

There are no issues with the factory side step mounting points. You don't need to be worried about the Mopar offerings, takes less than 10 minutes per side. It's the aftermarket options that use different mounting points.

No doubt about that. I just pulled the trigger on some LOD steps, but it took me a long time to pick which steps to go with. The body bolt issue definitely spooked me. Luckily I didn't have to touch those bolts.

Super big help, I didn’t like those other steps and now that I know the mounting I’m looking for I’m finding some other options with a little more utility. This was great, the info out there was all over the place on this one and I didn’t even want to put a wrench to anything. I’m staying away from frame mounted, don’t think I need that right now and if I ever get there think I will just have someone professionally put on sliders.
