unless the rare and specialized mounting equipment that only mounts from the backside of the wheel is used, at least most places would require the trim rings to be removed so they can access the outside bead of the wheel.

it’s no big deal to remove and replace them, and you’d probably do a better job of it than a tire shop would do. just don’t over-torque them when you put them back on; they go on pretty light!
Thanks for the response, no longer confused. Do you recall the lb-ft, l think I read 20 lbs somewhere? ?

Wouldn't it throw the balance off with the rings if you put them on after the wheels and tires are balanced?

Wouldn't it throw the balance off with the rings if you put them on after the wheels and tires are balanced?
assuming that the rings/bolts are out of balance, that would technically be correct (assuming we are referring to static balancing).
i suspect the rings themselves aren't likely to be that far out of balance, and that it's likely that just the wear of driving is going to shortly create more of an out-of-balance state.
if there's that much concern about it we could always have them balanced after mounting the rings ourselves.
