No one siphons gas anymore, they puncture a hole in plastic fuel tanks, take what the can and let the rest drain. I’ve seen this many times. A locking gas cap will keep honest people honest though.

Because the fuel tanks are anti-siphon or otherwise they would.

Only reason these days, to have a locking gas cap or a locking fuel door is keep assholes from putting something into your fuel tank.

Since anti-siphon tanks became the norm, the go to way to steal gas from someone's fuel tank is as you mentioned, puncturing a hols in the tank and draining out fuel into a bucket/bottle.

Sadly, this will be more more common place. It may be wise for those who live in or near high crime areas to invest in a good fuel tank skid plate. A wrangler is very easy to slide under.

I think it’s a Stant. I’ll check in the morning. There’s a reason I chose what I did. I’ll take pics.

Edit: Not a Stant. Found this in my file. It had a nice black key and enshrouded the filler opening. Some are just flat across the hole. This was a direct fit too.

Are these 2 separately purchased components, the outer cover and the locking cap? Can one do it themselves if you're not mechanically inclined and only have basic tools? thx!

The fuel door is standard on Rubicon’s, maybe Sahara too. Having installed one on previous JK’s they’re quite easy to do with basic hand tools and some patience. The fuel caps can be bought pre-keyed or Mopar has one where you assemble the lock to fit your factory key. I went with the latter, no prior experience of assembling a lock and was done in around 30 minutes (Quadratec has a good YouTube video on how to).

how does anti-syphoning work?

Yes to both. I went with Mopar parts. Stupidly simple to do. I'd use Mopar locking gas cap though.. The Stant equivalent starting throwing gas cap codes after a few weeks.
