Is March a good time of year to explore Moab? Not sure what weather is like this time of year. Wouldn't want to plan this if there's a possibility that some trails may be closed or VERY treacherous.

March is a transition month on the Colorado plateau, so the weather is abruptly changeable. Could be pleasant with blue skies and temps in the 60s. Or it could be windy and snowy.

Last week of March is Easter Jeep Safari. So the area is crowded.

Weather is unpredictable. Ive had it go from cold and snow to 70s and 80s in the same week. If you go, pack shorts and also good snow gear.

I try to go in March and November while it’s still daylight savings time. Less crowded, cooler, and an extra hour of daylight for wheeling longer / harder trails.

Is the week before or after Jeep Safari a good week or are the crowds still present?

It's a lot less crowded during those weeks.

One advantage to EJS week is the vendor show. Tons of vendors at a couple of venues set up and have good deals. No registration or fees to show up and shop all you want. And it's easy to pick trails that aren't being used by EJS. The big down side is finding a place to stay that doesn't cost a fortune.

I went the last two weeks in April (after) and it was great! Trails were not crowded and very good black marks showing lines from the Millions of Jeeps that crossed from the Safari.

Days were in the 80s and night time was 50s. It did snow on us the day we were leaving! Thought that was pretty cool being from the Houston area it was nice to see some snow.

We camped the whole time on BLM land for free. Maverick gas station was great for filling water jugs, we dumped our porta potty in vault toilet. Showers were 5 bucks at a bike shop (wife and I shared). Had a blast and saved a ton of money camping out in a tent.

Because of that trip we upped our game to a crawler hauler to stay out on the dispersed camping areas with a little more comfort and security. Will be making its first Utah voyage to Moab in Sept.

We would go up for Thanksgiving. Great time to go.
