I just received my subwoofer kit as well as my speaker upgrade kit for the existing head unit. Looking at all the pieces in the Insta video and seems a little bit over my head and I want to make sure that it is installed in a way that everything will go back together with no broken parts, etc. etc. I don’t really trust myself to do anything but simple wiring.

so I was wondering anyone who has paid to have this kid installed what did you pay? As I have gotten some prices already and I find most of them very unreasonable I’m obviously not going to go with someone who’s not qualify but I think 2500 to 3000 to install this kid is way more than I should be.

I did do it myself. It took me about 2 hours for the soundbar on one weekend and about 7 hours for the dash teardown and amp install. I put the third amp in during the original install so the sub install took about an hour. It is not difficult, just tedious. I watched every youtube video I could find before starting and now Quart has one too that was not available. Total 10 hours plus another 1-2 hours setting up the amps and stuff.

Depending on the shop, that might not be too far out of line. Taking the dash apart to install the larger driver/enclosures takes quite a bit of time. I spent the better part of an afternoon to install the enclosures on the last big install I did on a JL. I've only briefly looked at the MB Quart kit but I'd guess I would charge in the $1000-1200 range. I would add deadener to the dash pods so that I wouldn't have to remove and reinstall them at a later date. I've gone so far on some installs in the past to techflex and label every wire, along with custom length RCA's that took me weeks to finish up.

I totally get it that every shop has a different standard of quality etc. but I kind of felt that this install should be somewhere in the 1002 $1600 range at most knowing what I know from previous installations that I have done and being that it is pretty vehicle specific and not much is going on except using what comes with the kit

Do these shops have a posted labor rate? I would ask them how long they figure it would take. @carstereochick installed one in a 2 door and she said that it took them two days and that used an alpine amp to run the sub so there’s some time to custom wire the power harness. I’m not sure how far away they are but their shop is in Connecticut. Contact them and see what they say. They have done at least one of them. It’s not difficult, just tedious.

I watched the 40 minute install video last night, and it does definitely seem like there is a lot of things to take apart and put back together which I believe someone with a higher skill set for those type of activities than me would be great at. I have narrowed it down to another shop with a quote of 1500 to do the install and I think that’s more fair. They come highly recommended from a close friend we shall see. But in the meantime, I will definitely keep the shop in Connecticut as a back up in case this This falls through. When I watch the video I was like maybe I’ll do it myself and then I was like maybe I should just return this whole kit

Did they quote you $2500-$3000 including the kit? Or labor only? Our shop charges around 10 hours including professional tuning and mounting the bass knob neatly behind the shifter on the console. We do discount our labor rate when equipment is purchased in house. So for reference at the moment our labor rate is $126.5 per hour if purchased from us, $150.7 per hour is you supply parts. I hope that helps!!!

thanks for the reply. The insight really helps me gauge my decisions. That first shop that quoted almost 3000 was without the kit. I thought with the kit that would be a pretty fair price. He also insisted that there was ignition wiring, etc. even after reading the complete book from MB. I think he was just trying to upsell the time which may work with some people but thanks to everyone at this community including yourself. I believe I have the guidance to get this done now.

I had mine done last month including the Subwoofer and Amp replacement. Was about $1,400 in the DC area at Kartunes in Sterling, VA. Glad they did it. After looking at the instructions, there was no way I could do that with quality. Solid install. I'm really happy with it.

That’s the range I wound up in. Going to pick the car up tomorrow. A little trouble shooting todo but I think all will be good.

I am confused as to wether the PAC audio controller needs to have any dip switches set to work with the MB amps...is 5v better than 4v in terms of volume etc..cleaner signal. I believe my installer may have switched it to 4v for some reason which doesn't make sense since MB said the amps accept 5v

That will not matter as long as they set the gains on the amps. If you look at the front and rear amps, the gain controls should be around 11 o clock.
