Howdy,
2021 JLU 6speed 55k miles bone stock.

I was cruising today and threw the hammer down to get ahead of traffic... I pushed the shifter from 2nd into 3rd, released clutch, applied gas, and it was as if I was revving in neutral.

Odd... slowly re-engaged 2nd gear, released clutch, and confirmed I was in 2nd. Reattempted shifting into 3rd and it was as if my gear shifter column had turned into empty space. No longer a slot to engage 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th gears. Just a floating shifter.

Pulled over to a stop and while the was Jeep still stuck in 2nd gear.

I turned the Jeep off... called my Dad (lol)...
"Can you limp it home?"
...I can't get it back in 'Run'. Vehicle stalls out immediately upon releasing clutch, even when when applying throttle.

Called a tow to the local Jeep dealership where, coincidentally, they performed a clutch recall about 2-3 weeks ago. I genuinely have no idea if that could be related, but it feels suspicious.

Does anyone know what took place and what the prognosis might be? Could this be related to the clutch recall work?

Cheers
John

Been a long time since I was inside a manual box, but my guess is that a pin sheared a shift fork or a shaft.

If we're playing 5-why's
I'm pretty confident you can stop at the first why.
Say it!! :CWL:
Ha, I feel like that's a cheap write-off.
Are modern Jeeps not build to withstand the whopping acceleration a Pentastar puts out? (Probably not.)
Seems like premature failure, to me. This vehicle has only ever been driven normally and with care.

The shifter is connected to the trans via cables and linkage. That linkage has two main bolts that must be properly aligned and torqued to function. Assuming your clutch petal felt the same, I’d say something came loose in your linkage. Easy fix.

Thanks for the insight! You were right—it looks like the issue was with the linkage, and something likely came loose. I'm currently trying to get it covered under the powertrain warranty, especially since the clutch was just replaced.

"The tech said powertrain only covers what is touched by oil shift link and shift cables are not covered."
To which I replied:
"Even though these cables are on the shifter side, any handling or disconnection during the clutch work could still impact them, especially if they were moved or adjusted."

Hopefully, they can address it without any additional costs. Currently sitting at $431 plus $180 for the tow.

The linkage is disconnected for the clutch recall. This is an re-installation issue through and through. Regardless, this is covered under the powertrain warranty. The tech most likely doesn't know how to run labor ops to confirm coverage under single vin inquiry. Most don't.

"You guys just removed my transmission and now my shifter doesn't work." seems rather clear cut to me.

Some places, some people, will do anything at all to avoid accepting fault.

Took some pushing, at least 3-4 rounds of them saying its not related and wouldnt be covered, but the dealership eventually agreed to cover 100% of costs, including my tow bill.

Generally speaking, I think you've got to be prepared to fight the dealership for what you're owed.
How many people would have just paid? It was stressful, but I'm $600 richer because of it.

I appreciate you guys for pointing me in the right direction and giving me enough knowledge to advocate for myself.

...

Next on the list is paint corrosion warranty work... all doors, hood, and tailgate. 3 weeks 😅
