So I went to the woods this weekend and had my front swaybar disconnected and the rear wasn’t as flowy as the front. Could I essentially disconnect the rear like the fronts and get the same effect or does that throw off the suspension or drive line geometry? I always see folks disconnecting the fronts but never messing with the rear and I’ve seen a few rigs with anti rock rears which I guess would be a good option. I also really like the apex front quick disconnects. What are my options on rear disconnects?

The rear is light enough that it can be overcome in flex and tends to help maintain enough pressure to fully use the front suspension compression/uptravel.

You can disconnect if you really want to, but you may not see real benefit for the on road trade off.

Thanks Gator! I actually found a post from like 6yrs ago from RK offroad that showed the effects of disconnecting the rear swaybar and I was surprised to see that it actually hindered the performance of the suspension on a RTI ramp.

The one Diesel did?

I still don't know that I'm fully bought in that disconnecting makes it worse on a ramp, but even if they are just the same, makes sense to leave it connected.

I left one link off of rear sway and thought it rode better especially on rough roads and could not tell a difference in curves but I know a Jeep is not a vette. I am not sure about the guy’s video that everyone thinks is gospel on it hinders you disconnected.. but just my thoughts.

For me I understand where they’re coming from on the video. But at the same time they make the anti rock system for the front and rear. The only rear sway bar upgrade I’ve been able to find and I’ve seen countless YouTube videos of incredibly capable rigs running the rear anti rock and disconnected front links. Litebrite nation just recently upgraded their front swaybar to the anti rock system and have been running the rear anti rock for some years. So there is clearly an advantage to having your rear sway bar at least upgraded. I’ve contemplated adding the longer rubicon rear sway bar links to my sport to see if there is any type of improvement because when the front so flawlessly flows over rocks and holes while disconnected the rear lacks and is very harsh when going over those same obstacles!

It’s more likely that I’ll just continue to disconnect the fronts and invest in the rear anti rock system.
