I searched this area of the forum and didn't see any specific threads about hitch extenders. I did see a thread that mentions one from Harbor Freight, but nothing else.

I'm looking for a hitch extender that allows me to use this accesory from one of my favorite bands. The bumper for the XR is too low and can't slide this accessory in all the way. Any suggestions?

I did find this for $20 on Amazon - LINK

Eyeballing the pics..

Rather then using a hitch extender that will detract from the look, add weight, cost you $, etc......

Why not slide the shank of your goodie out of the hitch so the actual goodie clears the bumper by a 1/2".... and then drill say a 1/4" or such diameter hole straight through and then use a pin to run through that hole and secure the goodie..

Small hole you drill will not negatively impact the hitch.

Oh... I would also paint the shank of the goodie black, so it blends in with the hitch..

It's hard for me to think about drilling holes in the hitch when I literally just got the Jeep yesterday. I don't have plans to use the hitch for towing, but today is only day two.

I have an extender from HF, but honestly, using an extender to accommodate the short shank on your receiver plug seems overkill (will stick out about 6")....not to mention the damage you might do to unsuspecting shins.... I know you're not crazy about the idea of drilling a hole in the hitch, you might be able to find a shop to extend the shank itself to use the existing pin holes....

Use some zip ties, or a wire hanger through the accessory and reach them out the back of the hitch or through the existing hitch holes. No extender needed, just engineer something up...

Thanks for chiming in. I'm actually a DFW native living out in Arizona now.

I'm wearing a Texas Rangers shirt as I type this. Totally pumped about the Rangers making it to the World Series. I'm hoping the Diamondbacks win tonight so I can cheer the Rangers on from here.

Well howdy! I've actually been staring at those pics trying to figure something out. Best I can come up with is if you know somebody that can weld aluminum. Add a couple of fingers off the end with posts to engage those cross pin holes. But if you have to pay someone to do it, it'd probably cost you more than the piece itself.

Lotta trouble for a "favorite band". What's the scoop?

The piece itself was $80. Its pretty heavy duty brushed aluminum. For the time being I went ahead and ordered that $20 extender from Amazon and will see how that works. Worst case scenario I end up finding something that works better and I have that part on for the future.

I'm surprised how recessed your hitch is, but then mine is an aftermarket Draw-Tite. I think an extender is overkill for what you need, but amazon has it.

Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers - https://rogerclyneandthepeacemakers.com/

If you were in college in the 1990s, you may know some of the band members from the band The Refreshments. Fun party and bar band from Arizona that tours around the country from time to time. A lot of their songs focus on the southwest, tequila, drinking, etc. Good road music.

I can't tell how much length you have but this may hold it tight. I use this for my bike carrier.

I am now making book on the number of F-bombs that will be dropped from shin-extender carnage when opening the tailgate and putting something in or taking something out.

In the absence of any data, the over/under starts at four. ?
