Got my rear LOD bumper about a year ago. It was powder coated really well and I have no rust as of yet.
I don't live in the salt belt either though.

Take a stainless steel brush, and scrub off all the rust areas. Then spray it with flat black Rustoleum. If the color doesn't match well, tape off the front end, and a few extra cans of Rustoleum should make it all match.

Shouldn't need to fix that yourself. I would be getting LOD on this to resolve it. I have a rear LOD destroyer bumper that's over two years old and has no signs of rusting anywhere yet. It's been exposed to the salty coastal environment several times and still looks good.

I’m in inland San Diego area. What’s this rust thing you’re talking about?

Yup, Its less then 3 months old. In two years the powder coat would be gone. They were suppose to get back to me but I haven't hear anything.

I can confirm I'm having the same issues with my 8 month old LOD bumpers and trail rack. I'll be giving them a call after seeing this post--mainly to let them know. Yes, the Rustoleum matches well but seriously, this is just really bad powder coating. I loved my JK stuff from them for over a decade with no issues like what I'm seeing now.

I was hoping by buying a bumper from LOD I wouldn't have to worry about paint. I even researched the forums before buying.

Sorry to hear that. I also really like this bumper. It wasn't cheap.

Yeah well we dont have that issue here. my rugged ridge doesnt have a spot of rust. gonna be 3 years old soon.

The whole "chinese stuff is crap" is old and outdated. Made in China does not mean bad quality anymore. They've improve their manufacturing quality whether we like it or not. Sure, you can buy cheap, terrible quality stuff from China. but not everything made there is crap.

Good examples are DJI. They're making great quality drones for an extremely affordable price, as well as compact cameras. Theyre based in china and manufacture in china. Their founder studied in China too.

In the Jeep world you have smittybilt and rugged ridge, both companies based in the U.S. but manufacture in China, and both making good quality products for what you pay. Specially smittybilt, they've really up their game big time. The powder coat on my rugged ridge bumpers was alright, what I expected for what I pay. But the powder coat on my SB sliders is top quality.

There are many posts here of people having a bad experience with LoD products. Similar to complaints from chinese products. If we keep living in denial that everything China make is crap, things are not gonna end up good. This is a real problem imo.

I think on average you are more likely to get a quality product if built in the U.S. But some China made stuff can be really really close in quality sometimes.

Getting rust so early in the game is just not ok for what you pay for an LOD bumper. I wouldn't sweat it though, you know you are getting good quality steel and supporting american manufacturing. I would just rust oleum with the stuff they make that you can paint over rust. Yeah it'll be noticeable to OCD people, but honestly, it is a Jeep and a metal bumper. It will rust eventually anyway.

I got tired of painting my sliders after every wheeling trip. I am just gonna let them rust lol.

I live right next to the bay for reference.

I have had locally powered coated parts rust pretty fast as well so I was surprised the LOD bumper looks good still. I have more rust show on the frame and axles in the last year.
Powder coat or not, it's all going to get some rust sooner or later.
3 Months old though, that's pretty quick.

I wonder if LOD changed their process after they had the fire in their factory as it seems all those with issues have been in the last year or two?

China is our enemy and we should not support the enemy. Every dollar spent on Chinese product is a dollar more they have to fund their desire for global domination. We don't see it so badly over here yet but in Africa it's all China owned now. Canada has huge parts of the Alberta oil fields china owned. Europe has a ton of companies now Chinese owned.

DJI is cheap as it is subsidized by the CCP as proven to send data back to China. The US government banned DJI use for all their agencies because of this.

Same with Hiksvision security cameras - they send data back home. Also banned, along with Dashua and a couple others.

Jeep's are about Freedom to explore. Putting Chinese parts on a Jeep is helping to end all those freedoms we enjoy.

Yeah. And living the delusion that China makes crap doesnt help. They dont. They make good stuff for a lot less and have made us dependant on their manufacturing.

It is a systemic issue. And hoping that the consumer is going to take individual responsibility is not going to work out in the end.

We have to put pressure on our representatives to change this madness. China is evil.

Honestly I believe our quality and customer service has improved 10 fold over the last few years... Nothing is perfect, and powder coating is far from an exact manufacturing process. So sometimes a product doesn't get a complete coat and will start to rust after a short time, this happens and we take care of it. It is not every product, not every customer, and no this doesn't happen all the time.

For small spots near the welds, we suggest Rustoleum touch up paint which is really effective. but if its bad then we replace the bumper. Small spots in corners and at welds are almost impossible to catch during QC. You cant see them, they are not rusted, and the bumper is black therefor next to impossible to detect. Ideally our customers would reach out to us first and give us a chance and the time to resolve the issue.
