License Plate Mount

Here's how I mounted my license plate. I made some spacers from kydex to keep the plate from chaffing on the paint. I did some simple rewiring and added the plate light under the tailight assembly. I ended up painting a plate frame to get a clean look.

Great idea!

I was trying to think of a good way to mount the plate with an aftermarket bumper such as yours. The best solution I came up with is caulk it to the rear window.

I wonder though…will this be legal?

Very unlikely to be deemed legal though. At least 1 character isn't visible from behind and 2 characters would not be visible from a passenger side angle. That directly impedes the purpose of the plate. Arguing that one in court has slim to no chance of succeeding.

It's only an obstructed plate ticket, not a huge fine. But I don't think that looks good enough to warrant the inevitable harassment and fines.

I did like the Rebel one but not enough to buy it. It wasn’t the price, I just didn’t like it touching the body so I made this one….. P.S. this two door belongs to my wife. In a few weeks I will have 2023 gladiator on order.

License plates hanging off the body like the Rebel and LODs often get damaged or cause body damage. On JKs this is where the license plate was and everyone was working to move it away from there. I find it funny that now with JLs, these companies offer this as a location. Center wheel is a common place, but I'm not a fan of that because of how often I carry a trasharoo.
Nice thing about license plates is they are pretty light and easy to mount in many locations. I made a little plate bracket out of 5052 AL w/ a light to keep it legal and just mounted it on my swingarm out of the way. If you're running 40s or bigger then you might not have enough real estate to do that.

After having mine on my spare tire for the longest time, and getting annoyed with car washes catching it and having to remove it when getting tires rotated (yes, I'm one of those people that use non-touchless car washes and lets other people rotate my tires), I moved mine to a hitch plate.

I never use my hitch anyway, and I can easily remove it when off-roading to gain back any lost clearance.

Of all the places you felt you needed to be reminded as to the vehicle you drove, you chose above the fuel filler? Lol.

Seriously though, depending on where you are here in Canada, that plate will give an excuse to pull over, ticket, then ticket for tint, then tire poke. Lol. Then I put plate back and I'm stuck with 4 holes in the body. Center of tire mount for me.
