While working under the dashboard to pass a cable from one side to the other, I found this piece near the glove box. Does anyone know what it is and where it should be placed?
There is any exploded view of the underdash?
Thank you

This is used on the glove compartment arm that makes the glove compartment a soft open.
It should be noted, that the gear looking piece is in the holder wrong. The grease side goes inside. The smaller gear side is the faces out. Your is showing the bigger gear side showing out. Flip that piece over as in the current configuration it will not work or fit.
Just had a peek in the Jeep's glovebox. While my view wasn't unencumbered, the item in the OP's pics does resemble the damping fitment that slows the glovebox lid when opening. If the lid in his Jeep falls open, then the "leftover piece"...isn't.
See the pic of the Wrangler JL Glove Box Door Dampener - Mopar (68437969AA) below. See the red pointer arrow. That red arrow is pointing to a male key that twists into a female you will find on the left side of the glove box housing.
See larger second pic below and you will see the installed Glove Box Door Dampener - Mopar (68437969AA)
The third picture below, has a red arrow pointing to the area where you will find the female slot that the male twists locks/secures into position..
