I for one would like a JLU with clear untainted glass all around, including a soft top with real glass side and rear windows, and only using clear vinyl for a foldable panoramic sunroof panel/(s). And make it fit in back cargo area, when all folded up around real glass portions.
Real glass is heavier, and will be more of a concern for storage. Remember with trail grit and such all over the place, whatever the glass might lean against will likely etch scratches into the glass over time. Also if it rests at even a slight angle on a hard edge and gets pressure on it, that could be bad, especially if safety glass. Might cause as many problems as it solves, and be more expensive to replace.

Hey I like the idea of glass (I avoid even drinking from plastic) but the practical challenges are considerable.

I would NOT want real glass windows for the soft top. The soft top experiences a lot of vibration and movement from the elements especially at speed. I would imagine that combined with the weight of the glass could also cause it to sag or damage over time.

Also, it would make it more tedious and time consuming to take off the top since it would almost surely require a different method than the simple zip-around window of the current soft top. The vinyl is not the prettiest thing to look at but it is durable, lightweight and it folds/bends easily for storage.

Agree 100%. I really think Aventus just needs a Grand Cherokee and he can find a way to take the doors off. ;)

I will never purchase a vehicle with a glass roof of any kind. My mom's moon roof shattered spontaneously while she was driving. The internet is full of similar stories across all makes and models. The car manufacturers blame rocks, when in reality spontaneous shattering seems to be an inherit characteristic of the tempering process. Apparently glass roofs are not laminated like windshields. Maybe this will change.

All the more reason for a removable top. Take it TF off!

No one I know has ever had that happen and I would be willing to bet this phenomenon is on low end models who cut every corner they can, and someone who drives in a rural area on gravel roads.

Do luxury sedans laminate their sunroofs ?

Lexus and Audi. The internet is full of anecdotal accounts across all brands and models. I believe VW/Audi actually recalled certain vehicles.

Maybe manufacturers are starting to use laminated glass for roof panels now...at least they should be required to.

LOL! That could actually be kinda fun... have a vinyl shop do a 'camo' wrap on your vehicle, then watch as people rubber-neck and take pictures and wonder what you're testing out. Add some black vinyl coverups over certain areas to up the mystery.

The lamest inside joke ever for the 0.003% chance that I ever run into someone on the road who followed JLU pre-release protoyping.
