One main reason for diving into the Jeep world is to be able to get through high water. Whats the deepest we can go through without long term damage to electronics? Also i know most people get a snorkel for cleaner air off road but I'd be more interested in the case I'm into some deeper water if it came down to that. Sorry for the newb post but any info on this would be great.

Thanks man. I've been searching and couldn't find anything. I'll spend some time reading up.

Wranglers can be made to ford water deep enought that floating away would be more of a risk than water ingestion. That said, I'm still smarting from having to drop a couple grand rebuilding my axles on my YJ back in the mid 90's after fording deep water. They took in a teaspoon or so of water which milked up the gear lube and broke it down, allowing the rings/pionions to pit and wear out. I've avoided deep water crossing, when I can, since then. I also am sure to drain and refill the axles after deep water, even if the gear oil looks good. It looked good on that YJ afterward, but still had enough water in it to cause damage, over time.

LOL hell no! The Focus is fun but almost being swept away by 2 hours of rain is just not my idea of fun hahaha. Jumping into a Jeep is definitely going to be more fun in the long run.

How fast will water try to get into the axles? Will just driving a few seconds up to the floor boards be harmful? Not minutes fording a stream.

lots of folks in my neighborhood driving jeeps now. 1900 out of 2300 homes in the subdivision flooded last time (3 floods in 3 years), spent the day canoeing the neighborhood rescuing people off their roofs.
