Has anyone tried to adjust the JL/JT steering box using the adjustment screw at the top? Managed to loosen the lock nut but I couldn’t get the center adjustment screw to turn. Figured it might have Loctite on the threads so I heated it up a bit. No luck. Anyone?

Yeah I think finally ran across that one. Taking it in for the TSB.
I tried adjusting the screw. Didn’t want budge. So many threads in this topic it’s impossible to cull through them all with current info. I love how Jeep does want to notify you if the TSB.

They won't notify you about tsb's, only recalls, a tsb is something applied under certain specific conditions that the customer is experiencing w/ their vehicle.

I wanted to do this myself. It might need more heat

Any luck? I'm going through the same thing. It won't turn.

The best thing you can do is ditch that aluminum steering gear and get the steel one in there whether its fighting the dealer to have them replace it or spending the $300 and doing it yourself like i had to do on my JTR. Night and day difference.

Yeah, our aluminum box was fine for the most part, but when on long drives in 100 degree + temps the steering had excess play. Steel box, none of the high temp problems anymore, and initial steering play is less as well. I'd agree w/ above posts, even if the dealer won't perform the TSB swap it's worth the $300 to update yourself. Be sure to follow factory torque specs and order new box bolts and steering shaft nut/bolt sets. If you DIY I believe there has to be a software flash too, so a trip to the dealer unfortunately.

100% agree…. We noticed a massive improvement, when we had ours changed out to the cast iron box, under warranty. Even if one has to pay for it, it is worth it..IMO.

I know this is an old thread but did you have the flash done after installing it yourself or no? I’m having my changed out by a local 4x4 shop to the new Mopar cast iron box. Called my usual dealership and they are saying can’t flash it. My jeep build and vin didn’t fall under the TSB.

Is the flash really needed?

Yes. The VIN doesn’t need to fall under the TSB in order to flash it. The TSB also states you need to have a sales order code added, so if you install the TSB components, then it’ll need flashed.

Thanks for the quick response. Any idea if it wasn’t flashed? Or how long can I go before I can get in to have it flashed?
