I have a 2022 JL Extreme Recon. I love the steel stubby OEM bumper, but the gripe I have with it is that the WARN winch is buried completely in the bumper so that you can't see the rope. I like to watch the rope spool so it doesnt' pile. I may want a different bumper. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you might like a top mount. I don't think there are a ton of choices on that front though. I really like the look of the LOD stubby if you are into stubby bumpers. There's also rockhard which makes a great looking bumper but they are a bit pricey. There is also the f2 reaper offroad bumper which looks really sweet.

Hope this helps!

i have the LOD stubby and its great. the winch sits right on top and easy to install it there too. the bumper was an easy install as well.

I'm not saying it's better but that's why I wanted my winch sitting on top of the bumper, easy access.

This one is made by Rage but there a lot of other manufacturers making this style bumper, amazon & ebay. You can also scroll through extremeterrain.com photos to get ideas.

The Warn Elite front bumper works great on the JL, winch is still tucked down low between the frame rails but you can easily see the top of the spool and winch is a good 1/2" away from the grille. The only slight PITA is you have to trim just a little of the upper inside frame horns to clear a Warn Zeon. Bumper also looks great and has much improved approach angle at wheels vs stock OEM steel bumper.

EDIT: Picture of Warn Elite on my '20JLR, note you can see the full width of the spool between winch and bumper.
