LBL is mostly a mud run. Be sure whatever you rent has at least semi decent tires and you should be fine. Also be sure you clean it good, including the undercarriage or your friend at the rental agency will not be pleased. Also note that if you try anything too intense and dink the Jeep, YOU will be responsible…. Take easy trails and you’ll be fine.

Just “test drive” one from a local dealership and bring it back at the end of each day! ??

If you tell the rental place you're taking it offroading, yes...they'll come back with a hard "no".

If LBL is mostly mud (sounds like it), then rent the Jeep, shut up, get their insurance, and clean the heck out of it.

Trust me....you running through mud is much less severe than what people do to their normal rental cars

I’ve been in a similar situation where I rented a Jeep for some offroad fun, and the place was super clear about no offroading, but once I got it, I figured I’d go for it anyway. Honestly, mud is nothing compared to the abuse regular rental cars get from everyday driving. Just be sure to clean it thoroughly, like you said, and you should be good.
well if only you had popped in TWO years ago with this gem of information this whole travesty could have been avoided!
