No dog currently (been about 10 years since our last one passed), so our pet pig Ben will have to do. Yes, he lives in the house and is in and out like a dog, yes, he eats a lot, and no, I have no idea what we were thinking getting a pet pig. I initially told people if it didn’t work out we would just have bacon sandwiches, but my wife and daughter didn’t appreciate it;)

He is pretty nice though, and can be playful when he’s not looking for food (about an hour each day). He is also a celebrity in our neighborhood, with people stopping to take pictures of him in our back yard. I’ve always heard pigs are smart, but we didn’t get that one. He could probably learn calculus if you use food to teach him, however.

Ha ha. Hey pigs make great pets. I don't think people realize how much they act like dogs.
My buddy, as a kid, had a pet pig (several over the years) and they were really no different than the pet dogs.
Funny you mention your wife and daughter not having the bacon sandwiches. You learn pretty quick to not name the critters you intend to eat. Sure you call pig "wilber" or a cow "bessy" or something generic like that. Don't name one like yours "spot" and build a bond with it or it will be very difficult to send to slaughter. Of course my nephew is an exception to this. He'd sit down at the table when we're eating ham and say "is this Albert?" as he's digging in. Twisted little fella now that I think about it.... I may want to keep an eye on him.

PS, you posting that photo in the Jeep dog thread reminded me of the opening scene of Varsity Blues. BillyBob has a pig named Bacon, that he tells Mox, "I love that dog". Cracks me up every time. Thanks for the reminder.
